Darn it all to heck!
Lord, what is going on? Why is the screen I'm looking at moving this way and that! Was there peyote in my carnation instant breakfast today? No. I know that much. Father, what is up? Did I mistakingly pray for patience or something!? I don't recall doing that... I guess I will trust you then. Heavenly Father God, please give me heavenly patience in my affliction. Thank you in advance for shaping me through this. Let me not be a complainer, but an advacator of your grace which is sufficient. I may not understand why I'm going through these vision woes, but I will consider it pure joy! You obviously are not done with me yet! Thank you Father, for my husband who loves me and rolls with the punches better than Evander Holyfield. He is my earthly rock. I can't believe he still answers my calls! Thank you for making him so good. May my eye maintenance that is so high maintenance be used for your glory Lord. In your son's name I pray, Amen.
Friends I have to stop, drop and pray right now. Do you take these moments? Where you bank-chute your worries to God. My bank-chute tube is crammed with junk. But God is the ultimate bank teller of my life. Thank goodness.
Left eye be a wobblin'. It moves slowly from side to side like a baby swing. Dang it.
Right eye has started shakin'. It moves jerky like I'm shaking a pepper shaker.
WHY.
Okay, I know why- ectopia lentis et pupillae. But I don't really know why so I'm going to Dr. Lewis (flubber smart mad eye doc) to get some answers tomorrow. Which means I'll have both eyes dilated most likely. Heaven help me. I get to experience legal blindness in both eyes again for several hours. Oh well! At least I won't see the shaky vision right!?
Today I called Leelah's preschool and notified them we most likely won't be able to finish out the year due to my vision issues. I told a "kinda know" (Safety 1-2-3 video rocks!) person all about my freak eyes and explained to her how yes, I haven't a clue what is happening with my eyes, but that God has given me such great peace. She then said something about a great attitude that I had; which I quickly shot that the glory up to the Lord on that one. I also told her, "I have to". I have to have a good attitude. What else would I do? Be mopey? Gross. That doesn't mean I didn't subsequently cry it out to Johnicles on the phone. Oh sweet man he is.
I feel better. Thank you blogspot. I just wanted to share with you a little come to Jesus moment that I was having. I hope this prompts you to do the same with whatever storm you are dealing with in your life. It can be a category 1 storm even or a kill storm level 8- God can take it.

Random List
Thanks to one of my FAVE bloggers- Kenzie at The Stanfield Journey for including me on your blogger list for 10 random things about yourself! If you get a chance- and let's face it you wouldn't be on here if you didn't have time- check out her blog. She oozes wisdom and has a gift for writing. She is a blessing of a friend and person!
So here goes. Hold on to your hats! I feel as though I do these random lists anyway when I write being the queen of the dorks as I am...
1. Coffee. I love it. My daddy got me addicted to it when he lived with us in his last days. I finally caught on that he expected coffee every morning since he couldn't get up himself, rather that he was addicted. He'd always ask, "are you going to have some with me?" and then my addiction started as well. I now think of him every time I almost turn on the grinder with no beans- yeah, that was loud that day. For me it has to be the color of khaki or buff. So much equal and creamer it's almost unrecognizable. It's a problem.
2. I want to remodel my home every time I go into Ikea. I could live at Ikea. But just certain rooms- the fun, bright ones. Not the all-white or all-tan ones. I adore fun prints. I LOVE ART. LOVE ART. Love the Art Museum, but no one will go with me. I love contemporary (but not weird, Beetlejuice stuff) art or art like Lichtenstein. Colorblocking. Yellow is my fave color.
I think I'm writing too much.
3. I love monocles and top hats. Some of you might think: "Mr. Peanut". I think Classy. And I'm real into buttons right now.
4. I want to go to New York. Just to hang out. Not to stay for long. Just eat pizza and shop. Maybe no Broadway. I detest musicals except for My Fair Lady. Hold a ginormicon cup of Starbucks whilst talking on my cell phone and yell out, "I'VE GOT TO HAVE THAT COPY ON MY DESK BY THE END OF THE DAY!"
5. I have a business degree it's just dusty. I do, I promise. I have to keep telling myself so I don't forget. I love all things Marketing. A dream of mine is to work in the creative dept for our church. Oh, but to dream!
6. John and I watched a full episode of Garfield and Friends in our cruise room on our Honeymoon. I was sick with what felt like TB. It was fun. When everyone went around the dinner table telling their excursion adventure tales we told them about what we watched. And that's one of the many reasons I adore being with John. He is the bee's knees and elbows. Absolutely cute, funny and handsome all in one person. He continues to teach me how to be a better follower of Christ. Thank God!
7. Pretzels, popcorn, and candles are my weakness. I will do anything for any of the 3.
8. I miss our Chinese exchange students Anne and Maria so much. They are my far-away babies. So excited we are blessed with the opportunity to host 2 more this year God willing. We got a call from Anne from China the other day. Precious.
9. Leelah is a sun-sneezer. She cracks me up constantly. Her newest funny, "I have a husband."- when I asked his name she said, "Barnes & Noble". Can you stand it?
10. It's a consistent thought of mine that I need to prepare myself for living stranded in a desert/post-apolocalyptic period. What clothes do I wear? I better have layers! I'm not crazy, I just think too hard.
Random enough!?
Here's my list of blogs I want to see do their 10 Random Things About Themselves List:
1. The Vining Family
2. This is Me
3. Greater Things
4. Welcome to the Miller Big Top Circus
5. I'll Think About That Tomorrow
6. Ruffles And Stuff- I know Disney doesn't actually read my blog.
7. Best of Friends the Richardsons
8. The Caraway Family
9. Anderson Central
10. Standing on the Table

Knowing how God made your child...
After attending many parenting meetings at church, reading a gaggle (Mindee- what's up!) of books, listening to friends with older kids, etc. I have picked up on a central theme in Christian parenting: "learn how God has bent your child".
So first I prayed and prayed for the Lord to give us His wisdom in how He made our child so we will train her up in the ways He would have her be. And honestly, I hadn't heard back... Until this past week when I attended Pam Thompson's Free to be a Joyful Mother meeting.
Through Bible studies/small group settings I have found there are two great standards in classifying people's personalities and how they give and receive love. Now- wait a minute don't get feisty with me about making generalizations or boxing people up. This is helpful! Of course, there are exceptions to the rule and people can be more than one thing- a mix of traits and love styles.
Personalities-- Otter, Lion, Beaver, Golden Retriever.
a great book: The Treasure Tree by John Trent
I wrote in a question to Pam Thompson (see blog list for Second Baptist Women's Ministry for all Pam Thompson posts- she is incredible!) of course she read it aloud when I was home with bronchitis child, it read:
"How do you know what type of personality your child has? How can you tell what is the age and what is the personality?"
I missed the answer, but she did recommend a book and that was The Treasure Tree.
So I Kindled it (thanks Lezlie!!) and Leelah and I have been reading a chapter a day. She LOVES it. I LOVE it too, because I have learned I am raising a Lion.
Pam says it's key to find out how your child works to tailor your consequences and choices to your child's personality. Thus, being able to give them rewards and consequences based on what they like or don't like to do.
OTTERS: are sanguine type people. They go for laughs and attention and fun over everything. Joyful and hopeful. This is me. Sometimes a flibberdigibit albeit. Take away fun from these folks and you have your consequence! (I'm recapping heavily here you need to check out the Second Baptist Women's blog for the whole enchilada).
LIONS: are the boss! Choleric-spelling? In control. Do things with haste and impatient at times. Great leaders! My sweet daughter Leelah is TOTALLY a lion. I was watching her color today and she just slaps on the crayon and narrates the coloring she's doing and totally breezes through it. Doesn't take the time to color in the lines, just "WHAT'S NEXT MAMA!?" Phew. For these guys you are more likely to battle over control. But Pam gave us great verbage for them, "I love you too much to argue with you."
BEAVERS: are the perfectionists! Everything must be done right. Careful checkers. Observative. Great with numbers. Methodical. My husband, the mechanical engineer (with otter tendencies). I'm so over writing this already- do you know how hard this is for me, an otter!?
GOLDEN RETRIEVERS: are the caregivers, loyal hearts. Peace loving. Calm. Phlegmatic- why stand when you can sit? The chilled folks. Don't rock the boaters. Compliants.
Isn't this interesting if nothing else? I love it!
So the lovestyles...
A Great book I buy for all newlyweds: The Five Languages of Love by Gary Chapman.
My marriage was totally altered for the better upon studying these! Hope John doesn't mind me sharing that!
The Gifts person: (my Leelah I just realized) I was at a store and I noticed this for you so I bought it. Sound familiar? People that are constantly giving gifts/treasures/things/drawings to show others love and they in turn like to get gifts. With children: they are very territorial of their belongings (my child). Pam said her daughter would sit on her toybox when kids came over! Leelah wears and holds her fave things and then freaks when people touch stuff. What an epiphany it has been to learn this about my child!
The Physical Toucher: (Leelah's besty) Leelah has a friend and I have a couple too, whenever they get around you for the first time- a hug is required. A hug is also required upon leaving. They are huggers. It's great. Not for me so much. But great! I always make sure I know who a touch person is so I can give them hugs- girls- guys will only get CHRISTIAN SIDE HUGS from me!
The Words of Affirmation Person: ME ME MEEMEMEMEMEMEMEAHAHHAHAHAH.
I. Love. Words. Feed on them. These people must be told verbally or written that they are loved every day or they will emotionally shrivel up and die. It's true. These people love to give you pep talks all the time. Even when you didn't ask for one. Words are huge for them.
The Quality Time Person: I just want to spend some time with you. This person requires one on one time. Not staring at a TV, but with the focus on them doing an activity or just hanging out. Like going to a park, museum, talking, having coffee, come play with me mommy!, etc. I think all kids are this. I'm a little bit of this too.
yes you can be more than one!
The Acts of Service Person:this person has a list of things they need to get done running through their heads at all times. They have told you their list and you probably didn't catch it. If you ask them for their list of things they need you to do for them or to help out with you have won the way into their heart!!! (Husband is this to a Tee). They show love to you by doing the dishes, taking out the trash, cleaning your car, folding your clothes, running an errand for you, etc. They are pretty simple to please! Gotta love it! For kids it might be, make me a special snack or make me a craft or something.
Most of this I learned from our church's Marriage Prep course. Which my hubby and I took after being married for 4 years. It was so helpful!!!
I hope this info was helpful to you as it has been to me.
